I started at United Airlines in June 2022 as a 737 First Officer.
After a few months based in San Francisco, I transferred to Houston where I have been based for the last two years.

More about Matt
I have enjoyed my time flying within the Houston system and look forward to representing the entire Houston pilot group as your Council 171 First Officer Representative.
I am fortunate to have the unwavering support of my wife, Megan, for the past 17 years as we have embraced on a military career, volunteerism within ALPA International, and now as I run for the Council 171 First Officer Representative. Together we have four kids, who range from 8 to 16. We reside in the Greater Austin area where we are deeply involved within our community. You can often catch us supporting our family through our local soccer or swim clubs, the High School activities, or at a local tennis tournament.
Outside of our family activities, I can often be seen spending time as a Hospital Chaplain within a hospital system in Austin. I find passion within this role providing care and guidance to families during some of the most challenging times of their lives. This dedication to service is central to who I am. Someone who is willing to step up for our pilot community with unwavering support and dedication to ensure we are the most unified and protected pilot group ever.
I enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 19 as a Combat Medic in the Iowa National Guard. After graduating from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelors in Communications, I commissioned as an active duty Aviation Officer. Upon completion of flight training, I was assigned to Fort Riley Kansas where I deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 1st Infantry Combat Aviation Brigade. I later transitioned to fixed-wing aviation and was assigned to Fort Hood Texas where I completed my military career serving within various command and operational roles.
After leaving the military, I attended Denver University’s Iliff School of Theology where I attended my masters degree with graduate certificates in non-profit leadership and pastoral counseling. My passion for aviation continued, so I accepted a position at Envoy Air. I quickly became an ALPA volunteer for the Envoy MEC assuming various roles such as P2P Chair, Strategic Planning Chair, Communication Chair, MEC Vice Chair, and the Fee-For-Departure Chair. While doing this work, I led efforts that resulted in record-breaking contract negotiations across multiple Fee-For-Departure airlines and secured vital flow partnerships within mainline carries. This created real opportunities for pilots across our industry.
I have looked forward to utilizing my experience and leadership skill set in serving the pilots of Council 171 and giving back to our profession once again.
